How Betfair Sportsbook's 90 Minute Payout works, what happens in stoppage time, and how matched bettors use it. Rules checked Oct 2026. 18+.
Betfair Sportsbook's 90 Minute Payout, now often called the 90 Minute Guarantee, gives a football match result bet two chances to win. Your selection is paid as a winner if it is winning at 90:00, or if it is winning at the final whistle.
How the 90 Minute Payout works
- Winning at 90:00: your bet is paid as a winner, even if the other team equalises or wins in stoppage time.
- Not winning at 90:00: your bet still wins if your selection is ahead at full time (90 minutes plus stoppage time).
- Which bets: Match Odds bets marked with the "90" icon, placed before kick-off. Betfair says this covers singles, accumulators and Bet Builders. In an acca, every other leg still has to win; in a Bet Builder, only the match odds part gets the early payout.
- In-play bets: do not qualify.
- Free bets and cash out: Betfair says the payout applies to bets placed with free bets, and cash out stays available.
- Who: new and existing customers, 18+, UK and Ireland.
Rules last checked 10 Oct 2026. Betfair can change which matches qualify and how; always read the current terms on the bet slip.
Stoppage-time examples
You backed the home team:
- 1-0 at 90:00, 1-1 at full time: winner (winning at 90:00).
- 1-1 at 90:00, 2-1 at full time: winner (winning at full time).
- 1-1 at 90:00, 1-1 at full time: loser.
- 0-1 at 90:00, 1-1 at full time: loser.
How matched bettors use it
The 90 Minute Payout works much like a 2Up offer: the bookmaker can settle your bet as a winner in a case where the exchange does not.
- Step 1, back: back the team on Betfair Sportsbook's 90 Minute Payout match odds.
- Step 2, lay: lay the same team on an exchange such as Smarkets or Matchbook, at a close price. Read our lay betting guide if this is new.
- Step 3, most matches: the back and lay cancel out, apart from a small qualifying loss.
- Step 4, when your team leads at 90:00 and then drops points in stoppage time: Betfair pays your back bet as a winner, and the exchange settles on the final result, so your lay bet wins too.
Step 4 is uncommon. The offer only pays off over many bets when the qualifying losses in step 3 are kept small, so the closeness of the back and lay prices is what matters most.
A note on the exchange you use: laying on Betfair Exchange while backing on Betfair Sportsbook is allowed, but check that you are not breaching any terms of the promotion. Many matched bettors lay on Smarkets or Matchbook instead.
What to look for
- Back price close to the lay price. Betfair Sportsbook prices are often shorter than the exchange; only some matches are close enough.
- Enough money on the exchange at your lay price.
- Matches where late goals are common. Games between evenly matched sides, or where a team chases the game late, give step 4 more chances.
Betfair 90 alerts
Checking every 90 Minute Payout match against the exchanges by hand takes a long time, and prices move. Innovision Labs compares Betfair Sportsbook's prices with the exchanges and sends you an alert when a match is close enough to be worth a look, rated so you can set your own minimum. Alerts arrive by email, web push or Discord.
Alerts help you find bets faster. They do not change the odds, and you place every bet yourself.
Is the 90 Minute Payout the same as the 90 Minute Guarantee?
Yes. Betfair launched it as the 90 Minute Payout in July 2023 and now often calls it the 90 Minute Guarantee.
Does it count extra time and penalties?
No. It is about the 90 minutes and stoppage time of the match odds market. New to the terms? See our football betting terms guide.
Is it on every match?
Look for the "90" icon on the match odds market. Coverage can change.
Can I lose money?
Yes. Most bets carry a small qualifying loss, and mistakes or price moves can cost more. Only stake what you can afford to lose.
Safer betting
18+ only. Bookmaker offers are promotions; their terms can change or be withdrawn, so always check the bookmaker's own terms before betting. Matched betting reduces risk but does not remove it: mistakes, price moves and voided bets can cause losses. Only bet what you can afford to lose. Please gamble responsibly.
